Join me and Team PAPA D at the Reebok Spartan Race in Philadelphia

Gary LaSasso

Five million people worldwide are living with Parkinson’s disease — a chronic, degenerative neurological disorder. In the United States, 60,000 new cases will be diagnosed this year alone. Last year, one of those 60,000 cases was my dad. I want to do what I can to help raise awareness and support an organization committed to supporting research. That's when I learned about the Michael J. Fox Foundation and met Dan Morris.

Team Fox is the grassroots community fundraising program at The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF). MJFF accelerates high-impact science through smart risk taking and problem solving with a commitment to urgency and efficiency. I’m one of thousands of people around the globe who are turning their passions into Team Fox fundraisers to help them speed a cure for Parkinson’s. When you give today, 100 percent of Team Fox proceeds go straight to MJFF research programs.

In the spring of 2016, at the age of 37 Dan Morris was diagnosed with young onset Parkinson's Disease, a degenerative neurological disorder for which there’s currently no known cure. He has been fortunate that his symptoms so far have been mild and progressed slowly.

According to Dan, he's been staying unrelentingly positive while enjoying the heck out of every day. Diet and particularly exercise have been shown to help slow the progression so he's focused on controlling what he can control and no longer has an excuse to miss a workout! With tremendous resources dedicated to the cause, he is 100% confident that the medical community will eventually find a cure...but he's going to FIGHT it with everything he's got in the meantime.

The Michael J. Fox Foundation has been an incredible force driving a vast amount of scientific research in the field but still needs help to speed a cure. And because a donor has picked up all administrative costs for the grassroots fundraising arm of the MJFF called Team Fox, 100% of your donations go directly to Parkinson's research - yes, 100%!

To raise money for TEAM FOX and awareness for the Michael J. Fox Foundation, on Saturday, October 7th, I will be joining Dan in Philadelphia where we will compete in the Spartan Obstacle Course Race at Citizens Bank Ballpark, home of the Phillies. It's a "Sprint" (i.e. 3-5 miles / 20-23 obstacles / 40 mins fastest time) so good for ALL levels of athletes.

But don't sign up there...Spartan founder and CEO Joe De Sena has made an incredibly generous offer to waive the entry fee for members of our group called team PAPA D (Powering Against Parkinson's Disease) with their donation! If you're up to the challenge, email me or Dan directly to be added to our list. And if you can't join but would like to donate, please use the link to the right.

Best - Gary
