Team PAPA D - Powering Against PArkison's Disease

In the spring of 2016, at the age of 37 I was diagnosed with young onset Parkinson's Disease, a degenerative neurological disorder for which there’s currently no known cure. Nearly 4 years after I first noticed a tremor in my right hand, I have been fortunate that my symptoms so far have been mild and progressed slowly.

I am very blessed to be surrounded and supported by a phenomenal team: an incredible wife, three beautiful children, parents and brothers that have always been my rock, wonderful in-laws, great friends and a talented medical group.

I’ve been doing great mentally – channeling my inner Pete Carroll and staying unrelentingly positive while enjoying the heck out of every day. Diet and particularly exercise have been shown to help slow the progression so I’m focused on controlling what I can control and no longer have an excuse to miss a workout! With tremendous resources dedicated to the cause, I am 100% confident that the medical community will eventually find a cure...but I'm going to FIGHT it with everything I've got in the meantime.

The Michael J. Fox Foundation has been an incredible force driving a vast amount of scientific research in the field but still needs help to speed a cure. And because a donor has picked up all administrative costs for the grassroots fundraising arm of the MJFF called Team Fox, 100% of your donations go directly to Parkinson's research - yes, 100%!

Last year, we used an obstacle course race as a catalyst to raise funds towards finding a cure and were nothing short of blown away, overwhelmed and humbled by the amazingly generous response raising more than $177,000!!! Since many asked about contributing to and participating in future events, we decided to provide another opportunity to donate, join the race or both.

To again raise money and awareness for the Michael J. Fox Foundation, on Saturday, October 7th, Julie and I will be traveling back to the City of Brotherly Love where we will both compete in the Spartan Obstacle Course Race at the very cool Citizens Bank Ballpark, home of the Phillies. It's a "Sprint" (i.e. 3-5 miles / 20-23 obstacles / 40 mins fastest time) so good for ALL levels of athletes. Kira, Luka and Gabe will be also participating in the Kids Race, so there will be fun for the whole family. Please join us if you feel like spending part or all of Columbus Day weekend in Philadelphia!

But don't sign up there...Spartan founder and CEO Joe De Sena has made an incredibly generous offer to waive the entry fee for members of our group called team PAPA D (Powering Against Parkinson's Disease) with their donation! If you're up to the challenge, email me directly to be added to our list. And if you can't join but would like to donate, please use the link to the right.

Thank you not just for your financial support towards finding a cure but also for your words of encouragement, thoughts, prayers and otherwise good vibes over the past year. Since taking on this latest life challenge, in many ways I feel I am now stronger than before boosted by all the love and support that surrounds us.

As our late University of Pennsylvania football coach Lake Staffieri used to say, "Setbacks pave the way for comebacks...Andiamo!"

Peace and love,

"Impossible is just a word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. IMPOSSIBLE IS NOTHING."
